Frequently Asked Questions for Personal Members

Learn more about the Animas account consolidation for personal members.

Overview
When did my Animas accounts move into SLFCU’s transactional system?

Animas accounts moved into SLFCU's transactional system starting on the evening of Thursday, June 30 through Friday, July 1, 2022.

Who can I contact if I have questions?

We are here to help.

  • Phone: Call us during business hours at 505.293.0500 or 800.947.5328 (toll-free).
  • Chat: Send us a message using the chat function on slfcu.org. Once you are enrolled in SLFCU’s online banking system, you can send us a secure message or live chat about your accounts.
  • Visit: Stop by any SLFCU branch to discuss your needs. Visit slfcu.org/Locations for information.
Did any downtime occur?

Yes – downtime occurred on Friday, July 1, 2022 while Animas accounts were moved into SLFCU’s system. The Animas online banking system went permanently offline on June 30, 2022 at 4:00 p.m. MT.

What do I need to know about debit cards, credit cards, and direct deposits?

Debit cards: Your new SLFCU debit card (mailed in mid-June) can be activated and used now. To activate it, call the number provided with the new card. If you do not receive your new debit card, please contact us. Your old Animas debit card can no longer be used.

Credit cards: Animas credit cards will continue to work until they are replaced with an SLFCU credit card in August 2022. Information about this change was mailed to card-holding members.

Direct deposits: Direct deposits (such as paychecks and Social Security checks) and other electronic payments will continue to operate as scheduled with no action required on your part.

When did my ACH automatic deposits and payments scheduled for July 1 post in the SLFCU system?

Automatic deposits and payments scheduled to post on Friday, July 1 were posted in SLFCU’s transactional system on Saturday, July 2. Automatic deposits and payments scheduled to post on or before Thursday, June 30 were posted normally.

Did my account and financial information stay secure during the core conversion process?

Yes. Keeping your information secure and private is our top priority. The system consolidation process did not compromise the safety of your accounts, funds, or information.

Will I receive information about SLFCU’s fee schedules, member agreements, etc.? How and when?

Yes. A packet containing this information was mailed in late May.

Accounts and Monthly Statements
Have my account numbers changed? If so, when? How will I receive my new account number(s)?

Yes. Your accounts use a new SLFCU membership and primary account number. Members were mailed a letter containing their new numbers in early June. If you did not receive this mailing, please let us know.

Your new number is the same as your Animas number, with an added prefix of “22” and zeroes as needed to reach a total of 10 digits. For example, if your Animas account number was 123456, your new SLFCU number is 2200123456.

Your full SLFCU membership and primary account number, including the leading "22" and zeroes, are required to enroll in SLFCU online and mobile banking.

Please note that your SLFCU membership and primary account number is not the number that should be used when setting up new direct deposits or automatic payments. For automatic deposits and withdrawals, your SLFCU account was assigned a “direct deposit and automatic withdrawal number” that must be used in combination with the SLFCU routing number (307083911). This number can be found by logging into SLFCU online banking, selecting Accounts, selecting the desired checking account, and viewing the Account Details. If you order new SLFCU checks, the number on the bottom of your checks will match the "direct deposit and automatic withdrawal number" that displays in SLFCU online banking.

I had both Animas and SLFCU accounts. What changed for me?

All of your accounts can be found in SLFCU’s transactional system. Once you have enrolled in SLFCU’s online banking system, you will see all of your accounts there.

How are jointly held accounts handled by SLFCU?

Both primary and joint owners have the ability to transact on their jointly owned accounts. SLFCU’s online and mobile banking takes a “person-centric” view of accounts. This means primary and joint owners can each view and transact upon their shared accounts using their own individual logins. Only primary account owners can view monthly account statements in SLFCU online banking.

If you wish to review the ownership structure of an account (for which you are the primary owner) and potentially open an alternative account, please contact us.

How have my monthly statements changed?

SLFCU statements for share accounts and more are sent by mail at the beginning of each month. Members who have enrolled in eStatements and eNotices will be sent an email notification that their statement is ready to view securely in online banking. Generally, eStatements are available a few days before printed statements are mailed.

Credit card, CreditLines, Home Equity CreditLines, business loan, and mortgage statements are sent separately.

If I was enrolled in Animas eStatements, will I continue to be enrolled in eStatements at SLFCU, or do I have to re-enroll?

You will need to re-enroll for eStatements in SLFCU’s online banking system. To get started, visit slfcu.org/OnlineBanking. Click on “Enroll in Online Banking” and follow the steps. You will need your new SLFCU membership and primary account number to get started.

Will there be a delay in receiving my June or July statements?

No. June month-end statements were mailed in early July. Going forward, you will receive monthly statements from SLFCU.

Will I be able to view my previous statements in SLFCU’s online banking system?

Yes. Statement history for May 2020 onward is available in SLFCU’s online banking system. You can opt into eStatements and eNotices to stop paper mailings.

Branches, ATMs, Shared Branching, Safe Deposit Boxes, and Wire Transfers
Will the two Farmington branches and/or Bloomfield branch close after consolidation?

No change to branch availability is planned at this time.

Can I transact on my accounts at an SLFCU branch in the Albuquerque, NM or Livermore, CA areas?

Yes – you can transact on your accounts at any SLFCU branch. Visit slfcu.org/Locations for information.

Can I still use the ATMs at the Farmington and Bloomfield branches without a fee?

Yes. These ATMs are part of the nationwide CO-OP and CU Anytime ATM networks, which SLFCU members can use surcharge-free. The networks include 30,000-plus surcharge-free ATMs, including ATMs located in retail establishments such as 7-Eleven and Costco. Many of these ATMs also accept deposits. Visit slfcu.org/Locations for information.

Can I make deposits at an ATM?

Cash or check deposits can be made at ATMs that accept them. Note that ATMs at our Farmington and Bloomfield branches cannot accept deposits at this time. Use our locator to find ATMs near you that accept deposits.

If you’ve enrolled in SLFCU’s online and mobile banking system, you can deposit checks remotely by uploading a photo or scanned image of the check.

Is remote deposit capture available?

Yes. This is a popular feature of SLFCU’s online banking system and mobile banking app. Learn about Mobile Deposit.

Is shared branching available?

Yes. Use our locator to find shared branching locations.

What changed with my safe deposit box?

If you were renting a safe deposit box through Animas Credit Union, you can continue to rent the same one as an SLFCU member. Annual safe deposit box rental fee amounts are changing, as shown here:

Box Size 3x5 5x5 3x10 5x10 10x10
Old Annual Fee $20 $30 $40 $50 $60
New Annual Fee $19 $26 $31 $43 $75

SLFCU assesses annual rental fees for safe deposit boxes on January 1 of each year. Here’s how we will facilitate aligning your next full annual rental fee so that it will be due and assessed on January 1, 2023:

  • If you have a safe deposit box with an anniversary date occurring between January 1 and June 30: Fees assessed for these anniversary dates in 2022 will have been due and should have been paid in advance of the system consolidation at the end of June. Assuming you are a box renter in good standing, SLFCU will issue you a prorated refund for the portion of the annual fee already paid for days in 2023 (so you will have effectively only paid through 2022), and your next annual safe deposit box rental fee will be due and assessed from your par share savings account on January 1, 2023.
  • If you have a safe deposit box with an anniversary date occurring between July 1 and December 1: At your anniversary date, you will be assessed a prorated fee for the remainder of the 2022 calendar year at the new rate indicated above. After that, your next annual safe deposit box rental fee will be due and assessed from your par share savings account on January 1, 2023.
Are wire transfer services available?

Yes. Wire transfers can be fulfilled on business days (Monday to Friday) only. Learn more about our wire transfer services.

Online Banking, Mobile Banking, and Automated Phone Banking
Can I still use the Animas online banking system?

No. The Animas online banking system was taken permanently offline on Thursday, June 30, 2022. You can enroll in SLFCU’s online banking system in order to view and transact on your accounts as of Saturday, July 2.

How can I enroll in SLFCU's online banking system?

To get started, visit slfcu.org/OnlineBanking. Click on “Enroll in Online Banking” and follow the steps. You will need your new SLFCU membership account number to get started. You can also view the step-by-step process here.

Who do I contact if I need help with enrolling?

For assistance during business hours, call 505.293.0500 or 800.947.5328, or contact us via the live chat function on slfcu.org.

How are jointly held accounts handled by SLFCU?

Both primary and joint owners have the ability to transact on their jointly owned accounts. SLFCU’s online and mobile banking system and mobile app take a “person-centric” view of accounts. This means primary and joint owners can each view and transact upon their shared accounts using their own individual logins. Only primary account owners can view monthly account statements in SLFCU online banking.

If you wish to review the ownership structure of an account (for which you are the primary owner) and potentially open an alternative account, please contact us.

I’ve heard SLFCU’s online banking system uses person-centric views. What does that mean?

This means that all of your SLFCU accounts, including those that are jointly owned, can be accessed under your individual login in online or mobile banking. After logging in, you will see jointly owned accounts alongside your primary accounts on your account dashboard. Both primary and joint owners have the ability to transact on their jointly owned accounts in online and mobile banking.

If you wish to review the ownership structure of an account (for which you are the primary owner) and potentially open an alternative account, please contact us.

How can I set up card controls for my new SLFCU debit and/or credit card?

You can set up card controls for your new SLFCU debit and/or credit card in SLFCU online or mobile banking using the Card Controls widget. Learn more at slfcu.org/CardControls. Animas credit card holders will be able to use Card Controls with their new SLFCU credit card when it is issued in mid-August.

Will I need to enroll my SLFCU debit or credit cards in mobile/digital wallets such as Apple Pay®, Google Pay®, and Samsung Pay®

Yes. Your new SLFCU cards have different numbers than your Animas cards. Learn more about mobile wallets at slfcu.org/MobileWallets. SLFCU’s cards support all major mobile wallets.

I used the Bill Pay function in Animas online banking. Will I need to re-establish these payments in SLFCU online banking?

Yes. If you paid bills in Animas online banking, you will need to set them up in SLFCU’s online banking system. Prior arrangements made in the Animas Bill Pay system were not converted. Learn about paying bills in SLFCU online banking.

To get started, click on “Transfer & Pay Bills” in SLFCU online banking.

Will I need to re-establish my recurring transfers in SLFCU online banking?

Yes. If you had recurring transfers set up in Animas online banking, you will need to set them up in SLFCU’s online banking system. To get started, click on “Transfer & Pay Bills” in SLFCU online banking.

How do I enroll in SLFCU's mobile banking app?

SLFCU’s mobile banking app is available for iPhone® and Android devices. Go to slfcu.org/MobileApp for download links and more information.

I am already using SLFCU online and/or mobile banking. Do I need to re-enroll, post-consolidation?

No. If you already have access to SLFCU online or mobile banking (for example, due to opening an SLFCU loan after July 2021), you do not need to re-enroll. Your Animas accounts, including any for which you are a joint owner, are appearing in SLFCU online banking as of July 2.

Does SLFCU offer automated phone banking? How and when can I access it, if so?

Yes. You can enroll in SLFCU automated phone banking now. To do so, contact us during business hours at 505.293.0500 or toll-free at 800.947.5328. Learn more about automated phone banking at slfcu.org/OnThePhone. Self-enrollment is not available.

Do SLFCU’s online, mobile, and/or phone systems offer support for non-English speakers?

Currently, our online, mobile, and phone banking systems are offered in English only. Our Contact Center includes multi-lingual employees. We will make every effort to accommodate members who do not speak English.

Debit Cards, Checks, and Routing Numbers
Will my Animas debit card continue to work after system consolidation, or will I get a new SLFCU debit card?

No. Your Animas debit card stopped working after June 30, 2022. Please cut it up and dispose of it for extra security. New SLFCU debit cards, mailed in mid-June, can now be activated and used.

How do I activate my new SLFCU debit card? Do I need to choose a PIN?

Call the number on the sticker affixed to your new SLFCU debit card to begin the activation process. For quick and easy activation, make the call from the primary phone number on record for your Animas accounts. If you activate your card from a different phone, a representative will verify your identity.

If you are having trouble trying to activate your new SLFCU debit card using the phone number on the activation sticker, please call 800.466.0040 to proceed.

You can choose a 4-digit personal identification number (PIN) for your new debit card when you call to activate your card, or use the PIN that was sent to you in a separate mailing. If you set your PIN when activating your card on the phone, disregard the PIN in the mailer you received. Remember: Never carry your PIN with your card or share it with another person.

After activating your new card, if any charges were being automatically billed to your Animas debit card, please notify those companies of your new SLFCU debit card number. To do so, call each billing company’s customer service number or visit their websites to update your card information.

What if I didn't get my new debit card in the mail?

If you did not receive your new SLFCU debit card, please visit a Farmington or Bloomfield branch for an instant-issue card or call us at 505.293.0500.

Will I need to get new SLFCU checks, or can I still use my Animas checks?

You may continue to use your current checks after system consolidation. You do not need to order checks with the new routing number until you are running low on your current checks. Order new checks in SLFCU online banking, by calling us, or by visiting any SLFCU branch. IMPORTANT: You must use SLFCU’s routing number in combination with your SLFCU automatic withdrawal and direct deposit number when ordering new checks.

How do I order new checks if I’ve run out?

SLFCU offers convenient online check ordering for personal checks. You can also stop by a branch or call us to order checks. IMPORTANT: You must use SLFCU’s routing number in combination with your SLFCU automatic withdrawal and direct deposit number when ordering new checks.

How are SLFCU checks different from Animas checks?

SLFCU members may opt to use a substitute number on checks rather than their account number. If you are a legacy Animas member, that alternate number must be used for automatic withdrawals and direct deposits and when ordering new checks. This approach hides the true account number in the event a checkbook is lost. The routing number on SLFCU checks is different than the routing number on Animas checks.

Automatic Payments, Transfers, and Direct Deposits
Will I need to alert my employer, the Social Security Administration, etc. of any changes to direct deposits I receive from them?

No. You do not need to alert them to any changes.

Will my paychecks or other direct deposit continue to be accepted without any action on my part?

Electronic deposit of paychecks, Social Security payments, etc. that were set up for your Animas account will continue to work after system consolidation with no action required on your part. Delays are not expected.

Are there changes to how payments from my accounts are handled?

Requests for payments that originate from other organizations (such as for utilities, home owner association dues, insurance premiums, etc.), also called ACH payments, will continue to be made as scheduled without any action on your part.

To set up a new automatic payment, please use SLFCU’s routing number (307083911) and your new SLFCU automatic withdrawal and direct deposit number, which can be found by logging into SLFCU online banking, selecting accounts, selecting the desired checking account, and viewing Account Details.

Automatic payments that were previously set up/scheduled in the Animas Bill Pay system were not converted. Learn about paying bills in SLFCU online banking: slfcu.org/PayBills

When were bill payments (ACH withdrawals) scheduled for July 1 posted in the SLFCU system?

Bill payments scheduled for Friday, July 1 posted in SLFCU’s transactional system on Saturday, July 2.

Will I need to re-establish my recurring transfers in SLFCU online banking?

Yes. If you had recurring transfers set up in Animas online banking, you will need to set them up in SLFCU’s online banking system. To get started, click on “Transfer & Pay Bills” in SLFCU online banking.

Was my Animas transaction history preserved in the SLFCU system?

Yes. Past transactions, including payments by debit card and ACH transactions, are listed in your transaction history in SLFCU’s online banking system. Limited information will display for transactions that occurred prior to July 1, 2022. More details can be viewed on your monthly account statement. To access your statement history in online or mobile banking, log in and select More > eDocuments, then select the month you wish to view.

Does SLFCU offer a way to send and receive money with friends and family digitally?

Yes. SLFCU members can use Zelle®, a fast, safe and easy way to send money directly between almost any checking or savings accounts in the U.S., typically within minutes. With just an email address or U.S. mobile phone number, you can send money to people you trust, regardless of where they bank. Learn more: slfcu.org/Zelle

U.S. checking or savings account required to use Zelle®. Transactions between enrolled consumers typically occur in minutes and generally do not incur transaction fees.
Zelle® and the Zelle® related marks are wholly owned by Early Warning Services, LLC and are used herein under license.

How can I view and make payments on my loan(s)?

You can view and transact on your loans within SLFCU online banking.

If you submit your loan payments via mail, please send your payment to:

Sandia Laboratory Federal Credit Union
P.O. Box 23040
Albuquerque, NM 87192-1040

Note: SLFCU only allows loans to be paid ahead up to 90 days. If your loan is paid further ahead and you have questions, please contact SLFCU Loan Services at 505.237.7613.

Credit Cards
How long can I keep using my Animas-issued Visa® credit card? When will I get a new SLFCU Visa credit card?

Your current Animas Visa Classic or Visa Platinum credit card will continue to work through Saturday, August 20, 2022. Current Animas credit card holders will be mailed their new SLFCU credit cards in mid-August, 2022, and can activate and start using them as of Sunday, August 21, 2022.

Will I receive a new credit card account number or will my 16-digit number remain the same?

Your SLFCU credit card will have a new number. It will be important to update places where you have saved card information, such as bill pay services and merchants (for example, online subscriptions), with your new number.

Will I need to apply for a new SLFCU Visa card?

No. If you have an Animas-issued Visa credit card, you will automatically be transitioned to a Visa Platinum® Value or Visa Signature® credit card. There is no need for you to re-apply.

If you do not currently have an Animas Visa credit card and would like an SLFCU card, you can learn more and apply at slfcu.org/CreditCards

What if I do not receive a new SLFCU credit card in the mail?

If you have not received your new SLFCU credit card by August 19, please contact SLFCU at 505.293.0500 or toll-free at 800.947.5328 or stop by a branch.

Who should I contact if my Animas credit card is lost or stolen before I get my new SLFCU card?

Call 800.325.3678 to report loss or theft of your Animas credit card.

What number should I call if I have questions about my Animas credit card?

You can continue to call the number printed on the back of the Animas credit card. Once your new SLFCU credit card is issued, you can call the number on the back of that card.

What will happen to my bonus/reward points on Animas-issued credit cards?

Points on purchases made with Animas-issued Visa credit cards stopped accruing as of April 30, 2022, in preparation for the retirement of the ScoreCard Rewards Program on June 30, 2022. After June 30, 2022, you will no longer be able to redeem points. More information has been mailed to cardholding members. SLFCU’s Visa credit cards offer monthly cash-back rebate options.

Why is the ScoreCard Rewards Program going away?

SLFCU’s Visa Signature and Visa Platinum Rebate credit cards offer monthly cash-back rebates instead of a rewards program with a catalog of pre-selected prizes. This offers our members the freedom to use their rebates however they would like. Learn more about SLFCU’s credit cards: slfcu.org/CreditCards.

How can I make payments on my Animas credit card and view my card balance, activity, and past statements?

Until the conversion to SLFCU credit cards in mid-August, you can continue to access and make payments on your current Animas credit card account(s) in person at a branch or online via the eZCard website, which can be accessed here. The eZCard link is also found on the slfcu.org website – click the arrow next to Online Banking on the home page and choose “Animas Member Visa Credit Card Login” from the drop-down menu.

The last day to make payments via the eZCard site is August 15, 2022, and the site will close on August 19, 2022.

Are SLFCU credit cards contactless/tap to pay?

Yes.

Can I request a credit limit increase on my new SLFCU credit card?

Yes. Members can initiate such a request within our online credit card application, by calling SLFCU at 505.293.0500, or by visiting any branch.

What kinds of benefits or perks do SLFCU credit cards offer?

Visit slfcu.org/CreditCards to learn about the many benefits offered by SLFCU’s Visa credit cards.
