Dollars & Sense FAQs

10/30/2022

SLFCU's Dollars & Sense newsletter will become an online, quarterly publication in 2023. Here are answers to frequently asked questions.

Why is SLFCU discontinuing the print edition?

As a financial cooperative owned by our members, SLFCU continuously seeks ways to ensure we spend money wisely while also improving how we communicate with you.

Cost: It costs SLFCU about $3,100 each month to print and mail the paper newsletter to the 10,000+ members who receive a printed copy. That’s an annual minimum cost of $37,200 – money that can now be allocated toward other SLFCU initiatives, such as branch renovations and improving other communication channels.

Environmental impact: Aside from the cost, each print run uses an average of 538 pounds of paper. As SLFCU continues to look for ways to reduce our environmental impact, this decision can help us communicate with members in a way that is more sustainable.

Does this mean I’ll only receive SLFCU news on a quarterly basis?

Not exactly. While we will only be sending a formal email newsletter the second month of every quarter, SLFCU will continue to publish important news and updates regularly online at slfcu.org/NewsAndResources.

What months will I be receiving this email?

The email version of the newsletter will go out in the second month of every quarter. That’s February, May, August, and November.

What if I’m currently not receiving emails from SLFCU?

If you don’t have an email on file with SLFCU or if you have previously unsubscribed from our marketing communications, you can call us at 505.293.0500 or visit any SLFCU branch to update your contact information and ensure you’re opted in to receive our communications.

I never received a print copy of the newsletter before. Why is that?

SLFCU members who have an email on file have always received the email version of the newsletter to help save on printing and mailing costs.

Will you still be providing in-branch copies of the newsletter? I don’t have access to a computer or the internet at home.

No. We will no longer have paper copies of the newsletter in branches. However, you are welcome to utilize the computers at our branches to access our online articles.

If you do not have access to a computer or internet at home, you can also visit your local library and sign up for a library card to utilize their computers.

How do I find articles on your website?
