Important Information About Procedures for Opening a New Account
To help the government fight the funding of terrorism and money laundering activities, Federal law requires all financial institutions to obtain, verify, and record information that identifies each person who opens an account. What this means for you: When you open an account, we will ask for your name, address, date of birth, and other information that will allow us to identify you. We may also ask to see your driver's license or other identifying documents.
The SLFCU story began in October 1948 when a small group of forward-thinking employees at Sandia Laboratories created a better way to manage their finances. Today, almost 140,000 members from all walks of life trust us because we treat our members' financial wellbeing with the same care and concern that they do.
Today, SLFCU has about 140,000 members, $3.6 billion in assets, and 13 branches. We remain committed to delivering financial products that create jobs, housing, security, and growth for our members. By reimagining what a credit union can be, we're redefining the cooperative spirit in financial services. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of our families, neighbors, and friends.
Learn about SLFCU's journey through the years and the milestones that helped make SLFCU what it is today.
Fifteen employees of Z Division, now Sandia National Laboratories, opened SLFCU on October 18, 1948. The first branch was located in a small barracks on Kirtland Air Force Base.
Our growing credit union opened a larger branch at Kirtland to meet our member's needs. Soon after, a full-service branch opened on SNL’s campus in Livermore, CA.
Credit Union Center (CUC) opened on Juan Tabo Blvd in northeast Albuquerque. The facility houses SLFCU’s largest branch and several operational departments.
CUROS, the Credit Union’s first online banking system, launched to serve members’ financial needs 24/7.
SLFCU expanded beyond personal memberships to offer a complete suite of services to business members.
In line with SLFCU’s commitment to serving New Mexicans in need of financial services, SLFCU merged with Animas Credit Union in Farmington, New Mexico.
